Endoscopy is a highly useful procedure employed by doctors to examine the digestive tract. An endoscope is inserted into the body, which consists of a flexible tube with a light and camera attached. It allows the doctor to view images of the digestive tract directly on a colour monitor in real-time.

An upper endoscopy (OGDS) involves insertion of the endoscope through the mouth and throat into the oesophagus, allowing close examination of this area as well as the stomach and upper part of the small intestine. Endoscopy is a highly useful procedure employed by doctors to examine the digestive tract.

For larger parts of the intestine, such as colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy, an endoscope may also be inserted through the rectum for more comprehensive inspection. Endoscopies have become important tools for diagnosis and treatment in recent times due to their minimally invasive nature with minimal discomfort for patients.
